for mom and dad....found out this morning that marshall allen (reporter) and i won runner-up for this year's casey medal for meritorious journalism for a single project, a story and photo essay on a working homeless family with three young children in las vegas, that we did last summer. (don't have the pics handy this moment but i'll post them soon)

20070611 home sweet oregon

i landed back in vegas an hour ago. it was the most poignant return since leaving oregon just over a year ago. after spending a week in the place that feels most like home to me, coming back to vegas felt unknown. i miss the people, play and lifestyle of oregon dearly....but even in this moment i'm firm in my excitement to be living in this bizarre city and pursuing stories i feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work on. i mean, the adventure and exploration away from that personal comfort zone must play an important role, it is my story.

with that, a glimpse from my parting adventure with craig mitchelldyer on mt. hood today for snowboarding before heading to the airport. this is from the top of the miracle mile at timerline, where mt. jefferson shines from above the thick cloud cover.

20070610 geekfest gawking

this weekend was a grand time called geekfest with photographers from around the country, come together in portland to celebrate an online community called 'a photo a day' (apad) and photojournalism. i was a team leader for the shooting portion of the weekend, our team was: the gawkers....a few of my pics on the theme:

shot obama again in carson city this week. it was a much more relaxed scene as he stopped in comma coffee cafe to visit with locals and sip on a fruit smoothie before meeting with democratic legislators at the capital before a reno rally. busy dude. the portriat was the one picture i really wanted to make from this encounter.
